Our Goals:
- To educate the public about the dire need for GAL’s and the role of the GAL in our court system.
- To provide continuing education programs to current GAL’s.
- To raise funds for the children we represent though our Children’s Assistance Fund to provide educational and extra curricular activities.
- To assist with recruiting new volunteers through community awareness events.
CVGAL is run completely by volunteers to keep overhead to a minimum. 95% of all funds raised will be distributed to the abused and neglected children we represent.
What is a GAL?
The mission of the NC GAL program is to provide trained, independent advocates to represent and promote the best interests of abused and neglected children in the court system and to work towards a plan that will ensure these children are in a safe, permanent home.
Volunteers must complete an application with three references, pass a criminal background check, and attend 30 hours of training. After training is complete, volunteers will be sworn in by a District Court Judge. Once a volunteer receives a case, her/she must agree to visit the child monthly and provide a written report to the Judge about the child’s progress. Each case requires as little as 6 hours per month.
